Queechy is located in the suburb of Norwood, five minutes from the Launceston CBD. Queechy is fortunate to have spacious grounds, with several large grassy areas, as well as being in walking distance of major parks and recreational areas.

Queechy is an eclectic learning environment that caters not only to students who academically talented and inclined, but also those who are also passionate about the arts, sporting endeavours and involvement in a tight knit and vibrant community. Queechy is known throughout Launceston for providing varied opportunities to its students outside of the classroom, and it aims to provide its students with a wide-range of future pathway options. Queechy is a Beacon aligned school, which allows students access to business leaders from throughout our local community as both mentors and potential future employers.

Compulsory subjects

From years 7-10, Queechy High School students are required to complete English, Science, HASS and Mathematics (as are all Tasmanian Government school students).

In year 7, students are exposed to all elective subject options, in order to provide them with an overview of some of the options they have available to them to study in–depth in future years. Elective subjects include:

Extracurricular programs

F1 in Schools

  • Students learn and apply STEM skills to design, analyse, build, test and race a small vehicle in competition with other schools.
  • Students also learn fundamental business skills and gain an understanding of funding projects.

Project Lead the Way

  • Introduction to Engineering Design.
  • Students use modern technology such as 3D computer modelling to develop engineering solutions to sophisticated problems.
  • Queechy High School is the only school outside of the USA to offer this course.

Student Support

The benefit of Queechy working with only a small number of International Students who attend the school is that we are able to develop close and supportive relationships with our International students. If it is deemed appropriate and beneficial, International Students have the opportunity to attend EAL lessons to enhance their English speaking and writing abilities. Our wonderful pool of homestay parents and experienced with International Students from numerous backgrounds, and are dedicated to their long-term development and success at the school.
