Frequently Asked Questions
Primary School Program: there are NO academic or English language requirements to enrol in Tasmanian Government primary schools.
Generally, students attend the nearest primary school to their home address.

International students are required to demonstrate they have achieved satisfactory achievement over the previous two years of schooling. - English language proficiency:
Students entering Year 9 to 12 are expected to either have:- meet specific English proficiency criteria; or
- been taught at a school for at least 2 years where English is the primary language of instruction

Yes, in most circumstances, you will need a valid student visa (subclass 500) for the entire duration of your study in Tasmania. Upon accepting a place in a Tasmanian Government School and paying the fees, you will receive a Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE). Submit your CoE to the Australian Embassy in your home country to start your visa application process. More details can be found on the Department of Home Affairs website.
As an international student, you are required to have Overseas Student Health Cover for the duration of your student visa. Health cover will ensure that you have access to essential health services whilst you are in Australia.
Students can enrol at our high schools from 3 months (1 term) to 1 year (4 terms), live with a family in homestay, and experience a unique Tasmanian lifestyle.
Short-term study programs such as the Study Tour program is also available to offer a “taster” experience to international students. Please contact us to enquire about customised study tour programs.
International students have the option to live with approved homestay families or a parent or Department of Home Affairs (DHA)-approved relative during their stay. Visit accommodation for more information.

All Prep to Year 10 students attending a Tasmanian Government school are required to wear a school uniform. Schools typically also have an additional dress code for their students.

Many schools offer second-hand uniform shops to help families save money. Please note that uniform costs are not included in the tuition fees paid prior to enrolment.
