Study Abroad
The Study Abroad is a highly flexible program for students wanting to complete a short-term study period in a Tasmanian Government school.
Study Abroad offers students full immersion into a Tasmanian school in any year from 7-12. From 3 months to 1 year, you will study a range of subjects with local Tasmanian classmates. You will make Australian friends, and be able to spend morning tea and lunch time with them, practising your English skills. You can also elect to participate in extra-curricular activities with other students from your school, which is a great way to experience Tasmania’s culture.
Throughout your stay, you will live with a Tasmanian family in a ‘homestay’ arrangement. This will allow you to experience what it is like to live in Tasmania.
The core study focus of the Study Abroad Program is improving your English language skills. English is the only compulsory learning area. You can then choose which other subjects you would like to study. Core academic subjects to choose from include Maths, Science and Humanities, and recreation subjects on offer include Outdoor Education, cooking, Graphic Design, Art and Music.
Some subjects in Tasmanian schools can be very popular among all students. So if there is something you really want to do, it is best to apply well ahead of time to make sure a place is kept for you.
Intake Dates
Tasmania’s Government Schools have very flexible intake dates. You can commence your studies at any time during the school year from February to November. For example, you may finish your school year in your home country in June and then commence your studies in Tasmania in July.
