Course Overview

While studying the Diploma of Leadership and Management you will learn about finance, operations, leadership, communication, budgeting, human resource management, and strategy

development. These skills will support you to gain employment in Senior Team Leader positions where you will be in charge of managing daily business operations and a team of employees.

Pathways to further study

Diploma + Degree

The Diploma of Leadership and  Management  may provide you with:

up to 8 units of advanced credit into a University of Tasmania 3-year Bachelor of Business Administration degree, majoring in Management or Human Resource Management.

up to 4 units of unspecified student elective credit only will be awarded into a University of Tasmania Bachelor of Business Degree.

Course Structure

This course offers a combination of theory and hands-on learning. You will work on projects within the classroom, and experience practical learning in simulated business environments. Your studies will also include working on problem-based scenarios showing issues faced by businesses.

To achieve a Diploma of Leadership and Management, 8 units must be successfully completed:

4 Core Units
BSBLDR501 Develop and use emotional intelligence
BSBMGT517 Manage operational plan
BSBLDR502 Lead and manage effective workplace relationships
BSBWOR502 Lead and manage team effectiveness
4 Elective Units

Assessment Process

Throughout all assessments, Occupational Health & Safety procedures must be followed. Options for assessment will include:

  • Simulations
  • Projects
  • Presentations
  • Problem based learning
  • Workplace research and reflection
  • Reports and plans
  • Written assignments

Entry Requirements

  • IELTS 5.5 General Training (no band less than 5.0) or equivalent.
  • Applicants must be 18 years and over
  • Prerequisites: It is recommended that students hold the Certificate III and IV in Business, however applicants to the Diploma may be considered with relevant study or work experience.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Regardless of how, when or where the learning occurred, you may be eligible to apply for recognition of your skills and experience.  When you apply to attend TasTAFE you can ask for recognition of:

You may also be able to apply for credit transfer for units/modules that you have completed previously at another training organisation.
