TasTAFE offers Diploma + Degree pathways to the University of Tasmania, which provide graduates with both a TasTAFE qualification and a university degree.

TasTAFE is the largest Registered Training Organisation (RTO) in Tasmania and one of the 10 largest RTOs in Australia. Owned by the Tasmanian Government, TasTAFE offers a wide range of nationally-recognised qualifications from Certificate III to Advanced Diploma level to local and international students.

PLEASE NOTE: Government Education and Training International (GETI) is accepting new TasTAFE enrolments for courses commencing from July 2024 only.          The October 2024 ELICOS program and all new enrolments for 2025 courses will now be directly managed by TasTAFE.

English Course

Enhance your English language skills

Tasmania is the perfect destination for improving your English language skills. TasTAFE offers two English Language Intensive Courses for Overseas Students (ELICOS). Our English Language Programs have been developed to offer you comprehensive courses to improve your English language skills. When you study English at TasTAFE you will be offered individual support and attention within a safe, friendly and welcoming study environment.

TasTAFE’s English Language Programs are endorsed by NEAS (the National ELT Accreditation Scheme).

 

 

 

English Language Program- General (ELICOS)

Develop the English language and communicative skills needed for travel, social, study and work situations along with daily life activities. Our General English Program has been developed to provide you with confidence in your speaking, reading, writing and listening skills.

English Language Program – Academic (ELICOS)

This advanced English program has been developed to give you the skills needed to be successful at further academic study. Successful completion of this course will give you direct entry into any TasTAFE certificate or diploma with English entry requirement equivalent to IELTS 5.5, if you do not already have the required level.

Hospitality & Tourism

If you want to work in an environment that gives you the opportunity to meet lots of new people, work flexible hours and gain skills and knowledge that will allow you to work anywhere in the world, the tourism, cookery and hospitality industry may be just what you are looking for.

Careers in the tourism, cookery and hospitality industry can include food and beverage service positions, managerial positions in restaurants and hotels, and varied roles with travel agencies, event organisers and tour guiding/tourism operators.

Laboratory Technology

Engineering

Engineering offers a wide range of possible para-professional career options.  Engineering Drafting skills are required by engineering offices as well as other allied professional practices.

In the Diploma of Engineering – Technical at TasTAFE: you will use CAD software to produce technical drawings to scale. You will apply standard drawing conventions which may be used to draft everything from buildings, structures and civil infrastructure to mechanical and technical details.

This qualification may lead to employment as an engineering draftsperson / technician in many different kinds of private engineering practices and government departments.

English Language Entry Requirements

The entry requirement for studying at TasTAFE is English Language because all of our courses are delivered in English.

If you do not meet the minimum English language requirement for direct entry into your chosen course (see table below), TasTAFE can offer you tuition at the English Language Centre, located in Hobart.

The below table shows the English test scores required to gain direct access to a certificate or diploma course at TasTAFE:

After receiving a complete application, GETI is able to offer Oxford online placement tests if you do not have a current English language test score. This is free, and our admissions staff can provide this to you after your application has been submitted.

Please note that applications to Diploma of Nursing will require evidence of successful English language assessment from a recognised test provider (IELTS, PTE, TOEFL iBT, OET) before a Letter of Offer will be issued. CAE is not accepted as evidence of English language proficiency for enrolment into Diploma of Nursing.

TasTAFE to University Pathways

Students save time and money – from TasTAFE to University

TasTAFE training is designed to provide you with a variety of pathway options including further study at university.

We have pathway agreements with the University of Tasmania.  If offered a place at the University of Tasmania, students will be able to apply for credits/advanced standing for the units completed in their TasTAFE Diploma or Advanced Diploma.

A pathway to University through one of our Diploma or Advanced Diploma programs will not only enable students to reduce University tuition fees. It could also reduce their study load or the length of their university course.

Completing a TasTAFE course before studying at the University of Tasmania, means that students will start their University studies, having already attained one qualification. By the time they have finished at University, they will have two qualifications – something that employers love.

Benefits of studying TasTAFE before University:

  • Get a head start by gaining practical, hands-on skills before starting university.
  • Gain an understanding of the jobs, and the industry that students will be entering.
