International student ambassadors
About the Program
Tasmanian Government School International Student Ambassador Program is a-year long program run by the Department for Education, Children and Young People.
The program offers free training, integrated learning and volunteering opportunities to enhance international students’ leadership skills and promote Tasmania as a study destination.
Why this program?
- Develop self-confidence and build leadership through a group project
- Make new friends and explore meaningful connections
- Showcase your study experience across social media, webinars and marketing campaigns
- Participate in photo and video shoots to promote Tasmania
- Undertake valuable work and volunteering experience
Responsibilities
- Commit 20 hours per semester for online and in-person activities
- Attend student activities to support new international students and connect with prospective students
- Participate in agent events to promote Tasmania as a study destination
- Contribute to social media platforms to share your experiences
- Participating in photo and video shoots as required
How to Apply
Each year at the beginning of Term 1, we recruit our Student Ambassadors.
Eligible students will receive an application form to complete and submit during the recruitment period.
Further details and timelines will be shared directly with students at the start of the school year.
Program Highlight
Government House Event
Her Excellency the Governor and Professor Chalmers hosted a wonderful reception at Government House to celebrate the achievements of our international students. This event highlighted the invaluable contributions that students make while attending our schools.

Youth mental health
International Student Ambassadors championed youth mental health through a campaign
culminating in the City to Casino Fun Run and Walk. Eleven participants, including DECYP
staff and students, ran for hope and resilience, inspiring peers and strengthening community
connections while promoting wellbeing across Tasmania.
Refugee Week Fundraising Campaign
The artwork created was hugely impressive, capturing the beauty of one of Tasmania’s most iconic landscapes. It was a fantastic opportunity for our ambassadors to reflect on their achievements and celebrate their contributions to their schools and local community.

Who can apply?
International students currently enrolled in a Tasmanian Government School from Term 1 through to the end of the school year.
I’ve made so many precious memories while being surrounded by Tasmania’s breathtaking natural beauty and the warmth of its people.
My English has improved significantly, my perspective on the world has broadened.
Most importantly, I’ve built wonderful friendships that I will treasure for a lifetime.
Every day of living and studying in Tasmania is a journey of growth and transformation, building confidence and discovering new possibilities.
There’s always something exciting happening at school, volleyball tournaments, international food festivals, and book week parade that bring everyone together. Outside of school, I’ve taken up canoeing polo, rock climbing, surfing and bushwalking. Every journey is a new adventure.I grew up in Singapore and am now studying at Elizabeth College. The beauty, opportunities, cultural diversity, and strong sense of community first attracted me to Tasmania.
I value the college’s emphasis on holistic development, cultural exposure, and diversity, as well as its balance between academics and fun.
I would like to highlight the importance of adapting to change with the support of a welcoming and friendly homestay family.
