If you are also seeking a university qualification, the successful completion of your TAFE education may provide you with advanced standing into university degrees across Australia. TasTAFE offers Diploma + Degree pathways to the University of Tasmania, which provide graduates with both a TasTAFE qualification and a university degree.
TasTAFE is the largest Registered Training Organisation (RTO) in Tasmania and one of the 10 largest RTOs in Australia. Owned by the Tasmanian Government, TasTAFE offers a wide range of nationally-recognised qualifications from Certificate III to Advanced Diploma level to local and international students.
TasTAFE teachers know the industry well and are equipped with years of experience, as well as being qualified teachers. The teachers are enthusiastic to pass on their practical knowledge to see their students succeed. We offer excellent support to each individual student to ensure successful completion of their studies. This includes specialised student advisors, English language support and our 24/7 emergency contact line.

English Language Program – Stand-alone General English
For students who want to undertake an English course only, General English will be the best choice. This course will focus on personal and professional development and employment opportunities.
English Language Program – Pathway to Further Studies
Every course at TasTAFE has an English language requirement. If you need help with your English before you start one of our courses, or just have an interest in improving your English language skills, TasTAFE’s English Language Centres can help.
Our experienced teachers ensure that different learning styles are catered for, and will work with your on your English listening, reading, writing, and speaking skills in interactive classes. Assignments will include written essays, oral presentations, role-playing, and learning activities.

Tourism stand-alone course
Business/Business Management is crucial across all business sectors and levels of industry, and can provide diverse career opportunities for anyone wanting to be part of, or manage, a team or a professional office.
A Business qualification at TasTAFE will provide you with the skills and knowledge you need to be competent in a wide range of contemporary business practices. Rewarding career paths are open to business students that include marketing, finance and accounting, management, human resources, work health and safety and office administration – just to name a few.
From big business to medium sized operations or small ‘mum and dad’ outfits in the suburbs, the skills you learn in business are highly transferable and can take you to any industry sector anywhere in the world.
An Accounting qualification at TasTAFE will provide you with the skills and knowledge for a career in Accounts Administration, Bookkeeping or Accounting.

Information Technology stand-alone course
If you are creative, enjoy designing and making things with different materials and using a variety of techniques, the creative industries area may be just the area of study for you.
A qualification in this area will allow you to develop abilities in creative and critical thinking along with specialised technical and design skills in the following areas:
screen and interactive digital media
visual arts practice in painting, drawing, ceramics, glass, photography, wood, printmaking, textiles or jewellery

Art & Design
If you like working with young people and children, completing a qualification in the Early Childhood Education and Care area can lead to a wide range of rewarding career options that could be just right for you.
Employment opportunities include a career in the Early Childhood Education and Care sector working with children in long day care centres, outside school hours care services or family day care, or a role as a teacher assistant in kindergartens, primary and secondary schools or colleges.
Few professions offer the opportunities, challenges and rewards available to people working in the community services industry.
Employment opportunities in these vital sectors are strong and varied. A qualification in one of these areas is highly sought after – with the sectors being considered as some of Tasmania’s (and Australia’s) largest employment growth areas.
The building industry offers a wide range of para-professional career choices. Can you see yourself drafting a building or designing buildings for developers? These a just a few of career opportunities that can be pursued via a qualification offered by the Engineering.
This qualification may lead to employment as an engineering sportsperson / technical in the field of civil, structural or local government engineering, among others.
The entry requirement for studying at TasTAFE is English Language because all of our courses are delivered in English.
If you do not meet the minimum English language requirement for direct entry into your chosen course (see table below), TasTAFE can offer you tuition at the English Language Centres located in Hobart or Launceston.

Please refer to the Department of Home Affairs for more information on how these alternative test scores are bench-marked against the IELTS band scale.
After receiving a complete application, GETI is able to offer online placement tests to assess an applicant’s level of English.
- Applications to Certificate IV and Diploma of Community Services will require evidence of successful English language assessment from a recognised test provider (IELTS, PTE, TOEFL iBT, CAE, OET) one month prior to the commencement of studies.
- Applications to Diploma of Nursing will require evidence of successful English language assessment from a recognised test provider (IELTS, PTE, TOEFL iBT, OET) before a Letter of Offer will be issued. CAE is not accepted as evidence of English language proficiency for enrolment into Diploma of Nursing.
